Welcome to Populus Terra. Well, the forums at least.

Chances are, you’ve come to this website because it was recommended to you by one of the members of the forums. If you browse around, you’ll notice there is quite a bit of discussion going on and lots of things to pay attention to. Don’t be overwhelmed! Right here is a friendly explanation of what all is going on.

We’re starting a commune.

That’s right, you read correctly.

No, we’re not communists… Well, not some of us anyways. Mostly, we’re just people who wish to get a bit more directly involved with our lives, who desire to feel a true sense of community…

Each of us is here, discussing this quite seriously, in some sort of effort to… well, I personally don’t know what we’re looking for. Many of us are anarchists of some sort. Some of us might be looking to find ourselves and get closer to our human roots. Others might be looking to find community and self-sufficiency. Still others just want to pull away from average society and escape the spectacle and slavery that the world would impose upon us. I make no assumptions about what people come here for. However, if you find yourself at all interested, you might be very much like us, and we welcome kindred spirits.

Some insight into our members direct inspirations and desires for this commune include:

-Glorfon, who wishes this to be a platform for charitable activities.
-Selkie, who doesn't want to live her life any other way and isn't satisfied with the corporatism that most people get by on without truly giving anything back. She wants to truly live her life and live in a community of mutual aid.
-Zeerahks, who mostly wants to show the world that this sort of thing can be done! He also wouldn't mind a place to fall back on during his adventures through life and travel that is capable of sustaining itself.
-Le Rêveur, who wants a place he can live without sacrificing his morals, honour, and soul to the apathy and despotism that he feels strongly dominates our consumerist, capitalist, corporatist society. He also wants a strong, self-sufficient community that is supportive and benevolent.

This entire thing started in a thread about micro-nations on the forums at Steal This Wiki ( to find it). After toying with ideas of floating micro-nations on barges, flying micro-nations on zeppelins,  and massive underground industrial complexes, we’ve started solidifying something we hope will bloom into a healthy, functioning commune.

We've condensed all of the information we're gathering and going to apply into roughly 6 major sections: General, Food, Electronics/Power, Financial/Legal Issues, Buildings, and various miscellany. If you look in our information gathering and poll booth sections, you'll find them broken into those 6 subsections. There's a lot to take in, and a lot to be considered, so feel free to take a gander and then participate and contribute in the discussion, whether or not you plan to live at Populus Terra or not.

So here you have it. If you take the time to browse the forums, you’ll get some idea of the many, many things to consider when venturing upon an endeavour such as this. We’re planning issues like housing, food, water, childcare, farming, community, decision-making, clothing, supplies, activities, and even the not-so-polite issues of excretion, waste, menstruation, and sexual activity! We’re all humans, and we all have human things to discuss, so feel free to join the discussion!
