First off I'm not sure that's relevant to this thread and also that's not a possibility unless we create a new forum and just abandon this one.

sorry, i just noticed that they have one...
and AEV seems to be very well established.
also, looking at their "whois" data:

Abundance Ecovillage Corporation (CTLGDN-11649)
1860 Woodland Drive
Fairfield, Ia  52556
US

they have marked themselves as a corporation, perhaps this is an option for us as well?
and, is this the right address? because it is also the admin contact.

I don't know if they're for profit or not.  But we will be a corporation though.  To get non for profit status we have to incorporate.  This make us a non for profit "corporation".

Glor has the right of it. That is, unless we go religious. We could center a religion around our code of honour though.

I thought the same way until a few weeks ago. Then I realized a religion can literally be anything we want it to be.

Selkie, would you do me a *huge* favor? Read "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein. It will change your life. (It's on my list of "books that have influenced my life", lol).

If I can find it, I guess.

But religion implies that we have some sort of spiritual belief, and I don't think we should all have to share spriitual beliefs or even morals, especially since so many of us are anarchists.

I think that no matter how vauge or freindly we make the religion there will still be people detered by the idea of a religious commune.  Also it will just give oponent more to work with,  They'll say we're a cult with out looking into what our pseudoreligion actually is.

I agree with glorf here. No real benefits, and a lot of problems.
