Is it really going to take that long? That's kind of depressing. Sad

If you wait too long, people may think its never going to happen and wander away, so at the very least you might want to get some concrete stuff done because planning can go on forever with nothing really happening.

Well, when I posted that I was assuming we couldn't start till I was through with college (becasue I'm the land owner).  But Now I'm thinking in the summers between now and then we can start to build some stuff and maybe If there's a group who would be able to move in in two or three years then I'd be fine with that.

Ah, that's a relief! I'd be willing, as well as my fiance, to be one of the first to move in. If I do go to college I'll be finishing in 2 years anyways.

I have a question--would you feel comfortable with me telling others about this group?

Yes, very much yes, though admittedly in the last few months my fear has gone from not be able to get enough member to being so inundated with people wanting join that we can't sustain them all.  But since I suspect that only a small percent of people willing to join will  be able to make it work for them. sure invite who ever you want.

Also, you may consider selling the land to a non-profit organization (conveniently named Populus Terra) for...oh, about $1.  Very Happy

That way, other members of the commune can work on parts of it while you're at college.

Same here: two years, need a place after.  I'm not really interested in having a steady job, much less a career, after I graduate.  I'll be ready to work on this full time.

The other communes/communities start their own businesses. We should probably find a trade or two and pick it up as a group?

The guy forming the group called Conceivia who I talked to said he was planning on growing algae as a cheap biofuel or something.

I don't need to sell it you for you to live on it.  Furthermore my great grandfather (or was it great great?) instructed his family to never sell the land and I don't want to be haunted by an old tough Irish ghost.

then make it into a "charitable organization called populus terra". so that it will be shared land, and we can legally work on it.
