1: Discussion and Research
2: Designs and Lists
3: Networking
4: Resources & Storage
5: Transportation
6: Construction
7: Planting

The first step is what we've been working on: figuring out what we want to do and researching how to do it. However, we need a plan to get things into motion once we know what it is we want to do and how to do it. So far, we have some idea as to what we want to do. From there, though, what?

Well, once we know what we want to do, getting official lists and schematics and layouts and blueprints and whateverthehellelseweneed is a good start.

I think we need to start networking. We need to find people interested in participating, contributing, helping, communicating, cooperating, etc. Of course, we have to solidify what we're doing first, but we may want to start planning how to go about this. Additionally, people will want an idea of a general timeline.

After we start networking, we need to pool resources and find a place to store them until we can transport (and afford to transport) them to the land itself. We also have to figure out a way to transport people if we get a lot of people that want to help start this up. Having a plan for going about this is also a good idea.

Once we have people and resources, and the plans, schematics, tools, etc., to begin constructing and planting everything, we can start on that. It may be wise to do this in two separate phases, of course, so we have a place for people to crash before going out and planting.

Sound good to everyone? Oh, and where did everybody go?!

Well, I was in Europe.

This is the vague time line I was working on.

now-spring 2013:Planning resource acquisition
summer 2013: Construction
Fall & winter 2013: Initial occupation.  We'll live there but since we won't have been able to use the previous growing season we'll be buying food.
Spring & summer 2014: First planing season.

Sorry, I was away for a while on a trip...but I'm back now.

This sounds good, but I don't think we should put any time expectations on our plans.  When we are ready to progress to the next stage, we do.  No deadlines.

Secondly, I think one of the most important things that we need to do is meet.  That, on my list, is number zero.  Before we can go anywhere concrete, I would like to know the people I'll be working with.  I know a bunch of us are going to be in Saint Paul, but I don't think we should count on that, simply because we will be caught up in the fervor of the RNC.  I think that, sometime either this year or next, we should all converge on a central location, no exceptions.  Anyone who doesn't come won't be a part of it.  It is simply that important that we meet.

Actually, that fits in rather nicely with something I'm trying to get going on here in the Vegas valley. Activism is hard to keep going here, what with Community of Friends falling apart, the Independent Media Center disappearing, the radical feminists group also disappearing, World Can't Wait being torn apart by politics, and no strong thing among the immigrant communities arising. We want to take advantage of the "transitional" nature (and the reduced transportation prices in many cases: we have to have tourism to survive.. literally!) and make Las Vegas a convergence center for pretty much everything: organizing, activism, literature, art, performing art, you name it. The other advantages we have are tons of places to stay, tons and tons of facilities to use (or houses) for conferences, etc., and cheap food. If you guys are interested, I can look into lining everything up, but I'll want to get a set date in the semi-distant future (and remember, my problem is that I go to college in Idaho, as well!).

Sound good to anybody? Hopefully we'll already have an infrastructure set up by the time we want to do this.

I do acknowledge that meeting is important however I'll let people join regardless of weather or not we've met them.

I'm generally that trusting too, but then again, I'm often told I'm *too* trusting. Maybe we should institute a probationary period that we don't declare probationary and don't inform the person so that the tension of being assessed isn't present and modifying the person's behavior?

And wow, it took me like 10 minutes to fully comprehend what you meant by that. Yeah, I'd be in it even if I hadn't met anybody beforehand. If it goes awry, it's not like I don't have the ability to go do something else. I don't imagine it going awry, though.
