My recipes and information are all free. If I manage to publish anything, I'll personally distribute it on sliding-scale. For the moment, I just want to accumulate a recipe book.

Wouldn't have it any other way.

And my comment in the "know for sure thread" should have gone here. Sorry!

Anyways, if you guys would like, I'll put all my energies into spices and herbs. I can take all the suggestions and start working with them very soon (so I know how they behave and grow) while expanding my library (and probably writing quite a deal of it myself) so we have information, experience, and labour.

I mean, if you're going to be doing it anyway, sure, why not.

I'd like to direct you all to this website:

http://www.gardensofeden.org/04%20Crop%20Yield%20Verification.htm

This sets the average food per person per year at 2660 lbs (~7.3 lbs per day).  Ten people = 26600 lbs per year of food.  With a little excess (and for easy arithmetic), 30000 lbs/yr.

A few stats for you who don't want to follow the link:

Irish Potatoes yield ~ 15000 lbs per acre per year.
Lettuce yields ~ 9000 lbs per acre per year.
Corn yields ~ 6000 lbs per acre per year.

Remember, these are per acre.  And we'll have probably close to 20 acres of free space...that's a hell of a lot of food!

Yeah, I've been crunching the numbers recently and realizing that we can sustain WAY more people then I thought.  maybe some where around 180! However I'd rather have some leg room, ample food, pets, above ground buildings, and extra food to sell. so maybe we should aim for 30-50 people.

Another thing we have to consider is food storage and winter foods.  Probably deserves a separate thread...
