Thank you =)

This may sound like a silly thing to ask, but how are we watering the crops?
I'm not entirely sure about the geography of Iowa and how things are with surface water there, but if a stream is available, we'd be able to reroute water in a nuber of different ways.

I don't know if you've been watching the news but, yeah there's plenty of water.  We might be able the water table is pretty high so we could dig a well or set up a pump.  Then we can just a series of pipes that will use gravity to irrigate the fields.

Water tables are higher there than in the desert, regardless, so we just have to dig. If water drops, dig deeper..

Theoretically (AFAIK), we can alternate rows of crops, rather than alternating fields of crops every year.  For, here's a very quick daigram:

(C: Corn, B: Beans, S:Squash)

Year 1:
| Row1 | Row2 | Row3 |
   C          B         S
Year 2:
| Row1 | Row2 | Row3 |
   B          S         C
Year 3:
| Row1 | Row2 | Row3 |
   S          C         B

Etc, etc, and so on and so forth.

It's still a form of crop rotation, except that this works better for a smaller area, in that you get more different types of food, whereas with conventional rotation you only get one type.  Now, I don't know if this is feasible in the real world, where pests and pesticides kill as much as they can, but if this is possible, I think it would work better than conventional rotation.

(Then again, I know next to nothing about farming...)

I like your crop rotation plan, except for that I don't like squash.  I have a book about organic pesticides I can look into.

I'm planning on gathering a ton of recipes and titling them "The Anarchist Cookbook" (because there *needs* to be a literal cookbook of that title). If anybody wants me to learn and record some recipes, let me know. Then we can look at all the recipes we have and at some convergence let people try their favorites and grow some of our foods based on that.

And the corn, beans, and squash all prevent a certain type of pest that 1 of the 3 attract, if I remember correctly, *while* depleting different nutrients.

Yes, I know. *Trust* me, I know. Hell, it doesn't even tell you what happens in a proper thermite combustion, not to mention botching a lot of explosives. But there was an even *worse* version written sometime between 1900 and 1920 that blew a few people up, as well.

Might as well take a good title and replace the atrocious content with something worthwhile: food!

Agreed.  I have a ton of personal recipes written down in a small book.  I'll transcribe some of my favorite onto the computer and email them to you.  Sound good?
