Information Gathering

Hey all. Long time no talk.

So, here's the scoop. I'm finally getting down to business and this is my second order. The first order is a bit of a life's work, and if you want to talk with me about it we should go for a long and random walk. Seeing as how this is part of the first for me, it means that I'm getting to work *now*.

What I'd like to do is get a bit more of categorical info on the people in our little community. I don't know what questions to ask, however, or how comfortable people will be in answering them. (As STW says, assume everybody is a cop. Unless, of course, they're not.)

I've got a bit of a list that I put together in the last 5 minutes and I'd like input on what I've come up with and any other suggestions people would like to make. This information, if posted here on the forum, would be publicly available, however, and so the submissions might be advisable to go through email.

So, here's what I've got:

Would you consider yourself:
1- Introverted or Extroverted
2- Logical or Intuitive
3- Emotional or Rational
4- Likely to view things as Perceptions or Judgments
5- Spiritual or Anti-Spiritual

6- Would you be willing to consider spirituality without deity, higher power, magic, etc.?
7- In regards to sharing resources, you'd be willing to share: None, Some, Most, All
8- Your fields of interest and/or study include:
9- What skills do you possess?
10- Of the skills or interests, you are interested and/or able to teach which ones?

11- What sorts of political, social, economic, philosophical views do you hold?
12- Are you able to keep things hush-hush or do you tend to talk about most everything?
13- For the sake of the commune, would you be willing to develop some proficiency and expertise regarding: architecture, crops, printing, advocacy/sanctuary procedures/development, security measures, community outreach, crafting, construction?

And a personal question for me:
14- Is anybody interested in opening and operating a cafe/nightclub/venue/restaurant?
15- What date, exact time, and location were you born at?

Discussion? This post is intended for figuring out what questions to ask and not ask, where to send the answers, and what to add/remove. I intend to open another thread when we have our list formulated.

So, here's what I've got:

Would you consider yourself:
1- Introverted or Extroverted
2- Logical or Intuitive (not really sure)
3- Emotional or Rational
4- Likely to view things as Perceptions or Judgments
5- Spiritual or Anti-Spiritual

6- Would you be willing to consider spirituality without deity, higher power, magic, etc.? No.
7- In regards to sharing resources, you'd be willing to share: None, Some, Most, All
8- Your fields of interest and/or study include: Anthropology, journalism, history, biology, psychology, animals, creative writing, art.
9- What skills do you possess? Writing ability, easily guilted (that's a skill, I swear!), art, journalism
10- Of the skills or interests, you are interested and/or able to teach which ones?  Not sure

11- What sorts of political, social, economic, philosophical views do you hold? Non-theism, scientific/skeptical, preference for socialism or anarchism/communism, non-partisan.
12- Are you able to keep things hush-hush or do you tend to talk about most everything? Hush-hush in general, though may talk about anything that isn't off-limits (& doesn't violate privacy) with a close friend.
13- For the sake of the commune, would you be willing to develop some proficiency and expertise regarding: architecture, crops, printing, advocacy/sanctuary procedures/development, security measures, community outreach, crafting, construction? Yes. Able to? Not sure, but I'm willing to try.

And a personal question for me:
14- Is anybody interested in opening and operating a cafe/nightclub/venue/restaurant? Yes.
15- What date, exact time, and location were you born at? I know what this is for, and no thank you. Smile

You should answer your own questions for us. :p

more commune related:
percentage of time willing to spend at commune (both hours per day and span of time overall)

for example, I will probably find myself swinging by for 1-3 week periods and disappearing for about as long.
Zeerahks

1. Introverted (Highly, though very social among a small group)
2. Both (Logical and very intuitive)
3. Rational (sometimes to extremes)
4. Perceptions
5. Absolutely agnostic

6. Maybe/With good reason
7. Most/Some, though depending on situation potentially All
8. Social Psychology, Behavior and understanding/predicting such, martial arts and self-defense/sufficiency, (anything that piques my interest)
9. Very intuitive; martial arts (aikido), computer programming, lots of stuff here and there
10. Anything
11. Agnostic, Rational
12. I am a bank vault
13. Yes
14. YES
15. ...so sorry, but I won't answer this one.
UnMeilleurReve

lol, damnit, how am I supposed to run people's charts without their birth data?!

1. Introverted when I'm sleepy, extroverted when I'm not.
2. Intuitively Logical (as in, can do calculus intuitively, but not physics or chemistry)
3. Rational to a fault, emotional when irritated.
4. Perceptions
5. Anti-Spiritual

6. I came up with the notion.
7. Most.
8. Psychology, simple mechanics, architecture, political philosophy, symbols, computers.
9. Graphic design, basic computer and very little cryptography, psychological, advocacy, editing and revising, planning, organization planning, research, aesthetics. Man I'm lame, I deal in abstractions and notions...
10. Any and all. I think I have more skills that just aren't coming to mind.... I'm good at figuring out how to make things happen, you know?

11. Dynamicism and utility. Not to be mistaken for pure eclecticism or utilitarianism. It's... a work in progress.
12. I keep the right things hush-hush, but otherwise I talk about anything that's not under the table. Under the table stays there, everything else is fair game unless it has to do with something personal or confidential. Got to learn something from psychology and advocacy, no?
13. Definitely.

14. Oh heck yes. Razz

So other than those 2 suggestions, should I assume I developed a comprehensive survey? No suggestions or criticisms other than that last question?
vov35

or your post was tl;dr and people missed the idea of suggesting questions.

PHYSICS SHOULD BE INTUITIVE LOGIC. JESUS FUCK. AS LONG AS IT'S NOT STRING THEORY. </raeg>
Zeerahks

Comprehensiveness depends on what questions you're trying to answer.  If the survey addresses them, done.  If not... MOAR QUESTIONS!!!!

Food Preferences
Willingness to do chores
Need for private time: None, Small, Moderate, Large, Severe
Hobbies
Things you want to learn

etc...
UnMeilleurReve

I think my problem is that I'm not sure what needs to be asked or what is relevant enough. Those are definitely good suggestions, and I want more! Then, afterward, it'd be a simple matter to look at what sort of living arrangements would be unfavorable, what sort of problems to watch out for, etc. Then again, we seem to be attracting mostly atheistic/agnostic anarchists/radicals, so at least we don't yet have to worry about whether or not a fundamentalist, capitalist christian will be compatible, haha.

So far, if we add Zee's suggestions, we've got 19 questions. Any more suggestions, things that might be useful or fun to know?

Yes yes you did.  But we've all done some growing since then.

1 I'm extroverted, very much so.
2 I'm more logical.
3 I'm very rational
4 Wait this is the Myers Briggs test isn't it?  Anyway, perceptions
5 Spiritual but in sort of a Carl Sagan way.

6 Magic no, but otherwise yes.
7 Most.  The reason I don't say all is just to rule out personal items.
8 Digital arts, Biology
9 Carpentry, gardening, animal care, art, arcology, planning group organizing (From working on film sets)
10 I can teach digital arts, arcology theory, and gardening.

11  They are complex and I'd rather not put a label on them.  But they'll shine through as we discuss.
12 I can be hush hush if I feel it's something that should be kept secret.
13 I will gladly improve and increase my skills in that category.  I love learning
14 No not really

Hobbies: Table Top Role Playing, Art, Swimming,

Well, Zee, Selkie, Glor, Vov, and Me. That's everybody that's really active.

I'm going to start compiling summaries of information. The categories I'm thinking are: Locations, People, Structures, and Subsistence.

On that note,  do you think we should gut and restructure the forum?  The good information is rather spread out and filled with a lot of really old unimportant discussion.
UnMeilleurReve

Summarizing, gutting, restructuring, and archiving? Sounds like a plan to me.

On a side note, I like that there are over 2,500 posts, Smile
glorfon

Well, I created a new section that we can move things to and then delete the current sections.  I broke it into tentative plans, ongoing discussions, and archived discussions.  If you think it should be arranged differently, let me know.
vov35

I'm sure there are ways available to set up a wiki for free, and sometimes it seems like that would be a better format for planning...? have a list of a few possibilities on a page dedicated to each portion of our objective and add detail to each until we decide one wins out over the rest?
glorfon

Didn't we have one that we never used?

EDIT: theory confirmed http://populusterra.wikidot.com/
