Post Miscellaneous Items  Reply with quote
In terms of simple items that we can use, my sis is getting a couple kilns later this year or next year, and she knows all about clay pot making, so that could be helpful in getting pottery for storage, water and food transportation, etc.

If anyone else has any ideas for miscellaneous items that could benefit a potential commune, post here!

....I think we should try to live with as few electronics as possible, if only because of energy constraints.  It will be a while after we get energy producers (wind turbines, etc.) before we can run a microwave, much less a computer.  I think lights are a more important use at this point.

my computer uses ~100 watts a microwave uses a kw so...
anyway, i think we'll have enough power.
does anyone know a good source of white leds?
they're better than regular/flourecent lights in that if one blows, the rest are on, and you solder
in a new one... and they're more efficent!

My computer runs on about 400-500 watts (home-built gaming rig), which is what my comment was based on.

I'll have sewing supplies, herbal medicines, stencils and dried flowers for aesthetics, hatchets, knives, feather quills and ink, hopefully a typewriter or two, a small library, metal and wood files, some tools, my current computer, and other crafting/building supplies. Oh, and medical supplies (disinfectants, gausse, tape, and pretty soon hopefully an entire EMT set).

Any idea what we *want* in the way of miscellaneous items? More typewriters, more sewing machines, etc.?

And I agree with the "avoiding electronics" thing. The less we depend on electricity, the better. Although I'm *loving* the idea of using LED's. 9 of those things can light up an entire room and blind you if you look straight at them. We'll also want to make sure our electricity usage does not interfere with our pumps, fans, and lights.

Also, you can get these nifty little solar powered single led lamps that give an imitation solar or lunar light ambience. Leave our lights out to charge and cycle them?
